چکیده

We investigate the evolution of dust that formed at Population III supernova (SN) explosions and its processing through the collisions with the reverse shocks resulting from the interaction of the SN ejecta with the ambient medium. In particular, we investigate the transport of the shocked dust within the SN remnant (SNR), and its effect on the chemical composition, the size distribution, and the total mass of dust surviving in SNR. We find that the evolution of the reverse shock, and hence its effect on the processing of the dust depends on the thickness of the envelope retained by the progenitor star. Furthermore, the transport and survival of the dust grains depend on their initial radius, aini, and composition: For Type II SNRs expanding into the interstellar medium (ISM) with a density of nH,0 = 1 cm , small grains with aini . 0.05 μm are completely destroyed by sputtering in the postshock flow, while grains with aini = 0.05–0.2 μm are trapped into the dense shell behind the forward shock. Very large grains of aini & 0.2 μm are ejected into the ISM without decreasing their sizes significantly. We find that the total mass fraction of dust that is destroyed by the reverse shock ranges Department of Cosmosciences, Graduate School of Science, Hokkaido University, Sapporo 060-0810, Japan; [email protected] Laboratory for Astronomy and Solar Physics, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD 20771 Department of Astronomy, School of Science, University of Tokyo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0033, Japan Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik, Karl-Schwarzschild Strasse 1, 85741 Garching, Germany Research Center for the Early Universe, School of Science, University of Tokyo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0033, Japan

Dust in Supernovae; Formation and Evolution

Core–collapsed supernovae (CCSNe) have been considered to be one of sources of dust in the universe. What kind and how much mass of dust are formed in the ejecta and are injected into the interstellar medium (ISM) depend on the type of CCSNe, through the difference in the thickness (mass) of outer envelope. In this review, after summarizing the existing results of observations on dust formation...

Formation and Evolution of Dust in Type IIb Supernova with Application to the Cassiopeia A Supernova Remnant

How much amount and what size of dust are formed in the ejecta of corecollapse supernovae (CCSNe) and are injected into the interstellar medium (ISM) depend on the type of CCSNe through the thickness of outer envelope. Recently Cas A was identified as a Type IIb SN (SN IIb) that is characterized by the thin hydrogen envelope. In order to clarify how the amount of dust formed in the ejecta and s...

The Propagation and Survival of Interstellar Grains

In this paper we discuss the propagation of dust through the interstellar medium (ISM), and describe the destructive effects of stellar winds, jets, and supernova shock waves on interstellar dust. We review the probability that grains formed in stellar outflows or supernovae survive processing in and propagation through the ISM, and incorporate themselves relatively unprocessed into meteoritic ...

Dust Formation and Survival in Supernova Ejecta

The presence of dust at high redshift requires efficient condensation of grains in SN ejecta, in accordance with current theoretical models. Yet, observations of the few well studied SNe and SN remnants imply condensation efficiencies which are about two orders of magnitude smaller. Motivated by this tension, we have (i) revisited the model of Todini & Ferrara (2001) for dust formation in the e...

Young Supernova Remnants: Issues and Prospects

The dynamical evolution of young supernova remnants (YSNRs) is governed by the density distribution in the ejecta and in the ambient medium. Analytic solutions are available for spherically symmetric expansion, including the transition from the ejecta-dominated stage to the Sedov-Taylor stage. YSNRs serve as valuable physics laboratories, in which we can study nucleosynthesis, the early evoluti...
